Support Gonzales
6 January 2005
I have been writing with strong objections of Judge Gonzales' nomination based on media accounts of what happened. I watched the hearing today and was impressed by Gonzales and can say while not completely satisfied with his answers I can, in good conscience, support him.
I no longer want a hold, although I would like the memos to be investigated as fully as possible. I am satisfied that Judge Gonzales is not involved in the production these memos. Since whe is asking for a legal opinion from the Department of Justice, Office of Legal Council a problem? It is what is expected, especially because he was unsure of what was OK by law. I am glad he asked because it is what I would have done and often do when I need information or advice.
Prior to the hearing I was disappointed with your support of Judge Gonzales. I am no longer disappointed after learning more. Thank God for C-Span and for you. You did a great job.
I was also proud of the biartisanship in the Committee. It never got as bloody as I thought either, for which I am greatful. I no longer believe that this nomination splits the country so much. However, I pray that no Democrats decide to filibuster the floor vote on Judge Gonzales because this would divide the country.
I join you in your strong support of Judge Gonzales for Attorney General. Realizing that I can never be fully satisfied until I see what he is going to do. I also beleive that if Judge Gonzales ever would do wrong under the law not only would you ask him to step down but so would President Bush.
God bless you. God Bless Judge Gonzales. And God Bless America.
