Sen. Lindsey Graham has the Best Plan for Social Security Reform

10 November 2004

Now that we are done celebrating President Bush's reelection victory, it is time to think about his promise to reform Social Security. President Bush tells us that this is his first priority.

I have studied the six plans proposed in the 108th Congress and have come to the conclusion that the best plan was proposed by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

Graham proposes a plan that gives young people three options:

1. A personal retirement account, increased survivors benefits, and traditional benefits to offset the private account returns.

2. No private account, increased survivor benefits, and current law benefits.

3. Current law benefits only.

I believe this is the best plan because it guarantees current recipients their benefits and gives younger workers options.

I also believe that the plan is carefully thought out and Graham, having had the experience of his sister recieving survivor's benefits, is in the best position to reform and preserve this necessary program for all of us.
