Dear Sen. Durbin:
I think we need to stop being so ideological about the Social Security issue. I realize president Bush and and his chosen leader on the issue Sen. Santorum are being very ideological. They only talk about private accounts and thei benefits without a metion of the costs.
However, there is a group led by Sen. Graham that is trying to work out a bipartisan compromise. I would like you to work Sen. Graham and his group. He has admitted to the costs of the idea of private accounts and even agrees that it does nothing to solve the solvency propblem. Sen. Graham has proposed raising the ceiling on payroll taxes to pay for the transition to private accounts and keep the system solvent.
I ask you to please work with Sen. Graham on this important issue.
