Party Protection and the Rove Invstigation
23 July 2005
Dear Fellow American:
I am distraught about how the country is handling the Karl Rove matter. This includes the GOP, the Democrats, and especially the media. However, I am just slightly disappointed with Senator Graham. He hasn't said much which is Ok. Yes, he did say something on Face the Nation that I am sure he regrets.
I understand your feelings completely, however we should all be waiting for Mr. Fitzgerald to finish his investigation because then we will know what, if anyhting, Mr. Rove has done wrong.
It is apperant that there is more involved than meets the eye. There is a State Department memorandum and suspicions about Mr. Libby and Mr. Abrams. There is a new allegation about Mr. Bolton being the source for New York Times reporter Judith Miller.
We are getting these little dribbles and reports from the media and we really do not know the full scope of Mr. Fitzgerald's investigation, although we do know that he is checking into the memorandum. He has questioned Mr. Cooper, Mr. Rove, and other unnamed witnesses in front of a grand jury that is duly sworn to make a decision as to the law and weather there is enough evidence to present an indictment of anyone in the White House. We need to wait to evaluate how our elected officials handle this until we know exactly what's at stake and who the wrong parties are in this complex case.
I saw Sen. Graham on Hannity & Colmes and do not think he was protecting the party. He did not need to say it the way he did, but he is right; we need to let the legal system prove the case if one exists. He did not need to add the "otherwise shut-up," but it is frustrating when there is an investigation going on that will either prove or disprove the allegations and all this political chatter is ocurring aound it. He is frustrated because both sides are making political hay out of it. There had been an amendment and a second degree amendment on the Senate floor reguarding, apperantly, this situation and its relationship to classified information. It is frustrating to see the politicing and attempts to destroy someone before the evidence has been completely evaluated. Sen. Graham is a former prosecutor so his frustration is as much for the prosecutor as it is about Mr. Rove.
It would make the party look horrible if we were defending someone who had been indicted ir charged. However, if Mr. Rove gets indicted he will be fired, and that's as it should be. We are jumping the gun on this issue. There is nothing to worry about. If there is a need Sen Graham will call for the ouster of anyone that has violated the law.
Let's try to live at peace with each other while this complex case is sorted out by Mr. Fitzgerald.
