Immigration-English Only
I completely agree that English is our national language and that all immigrants should be required to learn it to become citizens. English is also the universal language of business. For those who believe that the amendment is racist need to look at other countries such as Mexico that already have a national language.
I beleive that anyone who want to work here should have to be proficient in English so that they can survive thrive in America. For example, the undocumented workers with childeren are having the child translate at teacher conferences and when other school documents come in the mail. The parents neeed to be able to at least read these simple documents and participate in converences so they can monitor their child’s progress. The child translating does not get needed information to the parents.
We also need to greatly reduce bilingual education becasue this becomes a reason that hispanics do not learn English. “Bilingual education” teaches the class in Spanish rather than English. This coddles those who do not wish to learn English and aoolws them to not learn. It makes the workplace more stressful for non-Spanish speakers.
When anyone else learns a second language in the US or goes to a foriegn country they do not recieve bilingual classes. You must be proficient enough in the language to get into the study program. In the case of learning a language in high school or college you immerse yourself in the language and learn. Let’s not confuse learning basic translations with bilingual eduction it is two different processes.
These people need to assimilate if they want to be citizens. If they are not willing to assimilate than they do nto belong here. America has the same right to require immigrants to learn English as Mexico would have to require that immigrants learn Spanish.
I also completely agree that they sould have to pay back taxes, pay a fine, prove that they have worked, and take a class in civics in order to pay their debt to our country and assimilate. Assimilation is not racism and neither is requiring English.
Thank you.
