Bolton and the Compromise

26 May 2005

Mr. Scarborough:

I am not sure what you mean when you make the comment "Republicans like Lindsey Graham." He votes with the party 90% of the time and is a solid conservative. He should not be expected to do eveything the party wants, he felt it better to compromise on the judges. The deal was all about the judges. Please do not disparage Sen. Graham, for an honest good faith effort to get the judges an up or down vote.

They didn't discuss Bolton! They didn't discuss Bolton! They didn't discuss Bolton!

The deal does not apply. No one stabbed anyone in the back today. And Lindsey Graham is not naieve! He is just a statesman. He can handle this. I am sure he has handled worse already. There was no betrayal so I do not appreciate your implication that there was a betrayal. Or that there was back stabbing becasue the deal does not cover anything but judges.

I do not think the bipartisanship has evaporated already. Not voting for cloture is not a filibuster. The democrats have some valid concerns and at least the chairmen and ranking members of the Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees should have access to documents relevant tot he decision. No one is asking for public disclosure of classified information, just disclosure to appropriate people. This should be encouraged reguardless of which side is asking. By the way I beleive that this is an "extraordinary circumstance" because they are not reciving the information they need to properly decide upon a controversial nominee. This would go away if the requested information were released.

This does not reflect on Dr. Frist's or Sen. Reid's leadership. This is about people that have independent minds on both sides that want a better way.
