Alito and the War on Terror
11 January 2006
First, I would like to compliment you on your opening statement and your line of questioning yesterday. I am very impressed and am convinced that regardless of your presence at a "moot court" session that you can be fair.
However, it is with Judge Alito that I am concerned. He is a very ontelligent man and well qualified, weather you look at the ABA rating or just his resume and record. However, with the issues that will likely come before the court regarding the War on Terror he seems to be shaky. I am not satisfied with his answers to your questions. He, and those who prepared him, should have known these questions were going to come up. He should have known more about the Geneva Convention and the Convention Against Torture than he did, especially considering that he had a month or more to study up on it and at least give passable answers. One bright spot in his testimony regarding this topic was his knowledge of the Hamdin case, however this is not enough.
Please carefully this in your final decision on voting. Thank you.
